about me
Hi there, my name is Martina Lucic and welcome to my website. How nice of you to visit. I've been teaching Dutch to expats since 2017 and I absolutely love it. I'm an animal lover, play music, write songs and love walking. Thanks to my bilingual upbringing - my parents are Croatian - I have experienced up close what's it like for people to learn a language. In this case, my parents are the perfect example, really. They showed and taught me that with good motivation, a strong will and perseverance you can achieve anything. I would love to help you with that. Even though I graduated as a translator, I quickly realized that seeing someone grow and become comfortable with something as complicated as a new language is very gratifying.
Whether you're learning Dutch for a job or to communicate better with a friend, partner or family member, I can help you. The lessons are flexible and tailor-made. We always focus on main points like culture, grammar, spelling and pronunciation through different kinds of exercises and fun games. Everyone learns in a different way. We will find a way that works best for you and make sure that we achieve your goals successfully while working on speaking, writing, reading and listening. I hope my lessons are relaxed, fun, encouraging and enjoyable. It may feel as a struggle sometimes, but that's just your memory growing and adding new vocabulary. Keep in Dutch has grown beyond my own practice. I now work with a small network of certified NT2 partner teachers, so I can always find the right match for you — even when my own schedule is full.

Above you see the different kinds of subjects we will touch on during each level. Of course there's always other things we run into as we go along. It also depends very much on your goal. Let's say you would like to learn Dutch for your work, we can always focus specifically on vocabulary in your work field. But we always discuss general vocabulary that's good for everyone. It's about finding that balance and we will do that together.

testimonials
Martina is for sure one of the best Dutch tutors I have had. She is patient and very caring. She also makes learning Dutch easy and fun, as she teaches the language by focusing on my interests, such as music. She also has tons of experience with the Dutch language exams and always has the best strategies for excelling in those exams.
My partner and I have been learning Dutch with Martina for one year now, and we extremely happy with our progress. We started as complete beginners, and one year later we are quite comfortable having a casual conversation. What really works for us is that Martina encouraged us from the beginning to speak and not worry too much about mistakes, because we will learn from them.
Martina is a great teacher who adapts her lessons and materials to the expectations of the student. She has incredible patience and the ability to explain intricate grammar issues. Her lessons are thematically diverse. Martina is a person with a warm disposition and after the first few lessons you feel completely at ease with her. Thanks to this, being taught by her is a pleasure, not a necessary obligation. Martina has been teaching me for several years and it is also a great pleasure to see how much heart and commitment she put into improving her skills in teaching Dutch to foreigners.

Martina is an amazing teacher! She's quickly able to discern your starting point, understand your language goals, and figure out your learning style. She's super knowledgeable, witty and helps explain and give nuance to the language in ways that an app can not. You get not only vocabulary and grammar, but cultural insight as well. We've really enjoyed working with her and highly highly recommend her.
